    At what age can I start the Texas Driver Education course?
    You can begin at 14 years old, but you must be at least 15 to apply for your learner’s permit.
    Do I need to live in Texas to take this course?
    Yes. You must be a Texas resident or legally authorized to stay in the U.S. to apply for a Texas permit or license.
    What documents do I need to start the process?
    Proof of identity, proof of Texas residency, and a Social Security number (if applicable).
    Is parental consent required?
    Yes, if you are under 18, a parent or guardian must give permission for you to take the course and apply for a permit.
    Do I need to be enrolled in school?
    Yes, if you are under 18 you must present a Verification of Enrollment (VOE) form from your school.
    How many hours of instruction are required for teens?
    Teens must complete 24 hours of classroom instruction and 44 hours of behind-the-wheel practice (including 10 at night).
    How many hours of instruction are required for adults?
    Adults must complete 24 hours of classroom instruction. Adults 25+ may take the knowledge test directly but are encouraged to complete the course.
    What is included in the course?
    Lessons on traffic laws, signs, defensive driving, accident prevention, the dangers of alcohol and drugs, and preparation for the DPS exam.
    Where do I take the official test?
    At your local Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) office.
    What happens if I fail the DPS test?
    You may retake the test. DPS will provide guidance on scheduling a retest.
    Can I complete this course online?
    Yes. This course is fully online and approved for Texas driver education.
    How long do I have to complete the course?
    The timeline may vary, but most students complete it within a few weeks depending on their schedule.

    You still need to complete the state-required education hours and pass the DPS exams to become licensed.
